Chapter 1 : A long lost civilization

A long time ago in the continent of Tural, the Mamool Ja were looking for a territory to settle in. In fact, they had decided that Yok Tural was the most adapted place for them to prosper, more precisely, in the lands of Yak T'el. At the time, only the Northern part of Yak T'el was known of, as the depths of the land was of the best kept secrets of the Xbr'aal. As time passed, younger generations would forget about its existence at all.As few people may have known then, the Xbr'aal had two tribes: the Helion, worshipping the Sun and masters of the art of war and the Lost Xbr'aal, who adored the Moon and had a special connection towards runic and protective magic. However, the Helion and the Lost Xbr'aal did not mingle, as they simply could not understand each other in their way of living, to the point where the legend says that, because of their conflicts, the land of Yak T'el got separated in two parts when the Helion and the Lost Xbr'aal both decided they didn't want to have anything to do with each other and to never interfere with one another's life. Since then, the Lost Xbr'aal lived in exile, as no one could reach as far down as the Southern lands of Yak T'el, where even the sun did not dare to shine.Time passed and, eventually, some would forget about this past. After those events took place and when the Mamool Ja, who desired this land, came to Yak T'el, they fought with the Helion Xbr'aal but, being strangers to the land and not prepared enough, their strategies all failed, one after one, facing an ennemy as strong as the Xbr'aal. Losing the fight but never admitting defeat, the Mamool Ja had no other choice but to retreat and found themselves lost at the bottom of Ty'iinbek. Resting there, they found a hole on a rock and through it, saw that there seemed to be some kind of cave behind. At first, the Mamool Ja thought it great to widen that hole in order to have a hiding place where they could set up a camp and develop a strategy to defeat their opponent. What they found, though, was even better than they could ever have imagined : it was a place never seen before, the Xty'iinbek Tsoly cavern. Amazed by their discovery, curiosity pushed the Mamool Ja to dig even further down, as they craved to know how far this cavern would lead them to and what was hiding in this land their hearts desired. After years of digging, the Mamool Ja finally reached the end of the cavern and discovered the land of the Lost Xbr'aal. The strangers were warmly greeted by the pacifist village of then known as Moxuk. The Southern lands of Yak T'el had trees so tall and deciduous that no sun beam would cross its leaves. In these mysterious grounds, every tree, every rock, every being seemed to have some sort of magic within their core. This, you see, was a land of immemorial runic magic that seemingly attracted all kinds of forces. The Mamool Ja explored the lands and, realizing its potential, betrayed the people of Moxuk, who couldn't defend themselves as they had no armed forces since there hadn't been any reason to before. Moxuk was then renamed Mamook. The other Xbr'aal of the Southern land were warned by a few villagers that could escape and a war of many years began. From a village named Moxutural was a High Priestess who was requested to live in the palace because it was where she belonged, being the king's great counselor. During the war, the palace was used as a refuge for those who couldn't fight back, such as the old, the sick, the injured and of course, the children. The High Priestess used her protective runic magic to help repelling the Mamool Ja offensive forces, but even though her magic was great, after all those years of war, the magical barrier she placed on the palace started to breach.A crisis meeting took place in the operating room and the Xbr'aal leaders had no other choice than to come to terms with the idea that they were losing the war. With that knowledge, they made up a plan to save all the survivors they could by going to the far East of Tural to the sea so they could sail away on a rather humble boat, as the path up North was well guarded by the Mamool Ja. It broke her heart to leave her baby boy to her assistant, but the High Priestess had to do it for his own sake, as she knew it was the only way ; she could not leave anyone behind since they needed every single bit of protection she could provide, as not everyone could cross the lands to the East because of their old age or injuries. The royal family stayed as well, because they would not leave their land without fighting, even to their demise. When the war was over, the remaining Lost Xbr'aal were either killed or enslaved. The remaining ones weren't allowed to have kids so their race would become extinct. Fortunately enough, those who could escape finally arrived, through storm and heavy rain to Eorzea in La Noscea. Most of them died of scorbut during the trip, but a very few Xbr'aal, including the High Priestess' son, landed safely.Lost in the new continent, traumatized by their dreadful past, the very few Xbr'aal survivors parted ways. The High Priestess' assistant, out of loyalty, took great care of the little boy but never told him anything about his mother, about his homeland and what happened there. She raised the baby as her own, believing it was the best thing to do to protect him. They lived a quiet life in Aleport for generations.

Chapter 2 : A heavy past

Between 800 to 900 years later, a baby girl descending from the late High Priestess was born. This, unfortunately, was a bad new for her parents who were heavily indebted to a wealthy family from Hingashi. As they had no way of paying back their dues, the cruel master of the Hanzai family took as payment the baby girl away when she was too young to remember anything and had her parents executed. Indeed, the Hingan family had heard of the Hrothgar's natural strength and saw it as an opportunity to have one of their own as a bodyguard, which was much needed as they had a shady business and many enemies. They deplored the fact that she was born female, but chose to keep her anyway, since one is better than none. So they took the poor little baby to Kugane and kept her in a cage during her childhood and barely fed her. They made her steal things as training as she was agile and fast.Life was hard, but she never broke down as she had a gleam of hope since the newly hired miqo'te maid of the Hanzai family proved to be a trustworthy friend. That maid, Chaeyeon Myeong, was secretly revolted by the treatment her masters gave to this poor child. And so, whenever she could, Chaeyeon gave the girl extra food in secret and even taught her how to read in her spare time. The maid also gave her something she never had before : a name. One day, Chaeyeon Myeong had enough of seeing little Chaerin been mistreated and, after setting things up, she planned an escape for her and the girl. Chaeyeon put some sleeping herbal medicine in her masters' usual night tea and waited for them to fall deep asleep. When the time came, she freed Chaerin with the keys she had previously stolen from the Hanzai family's office and they ran as fast as they could in the foggy night. Alas, the butler of the Hingan family saw them running away and alerted the guards to chase after them. Chaeyeon and Chaerin reached the pier in time to get in a small boat that was there and paddled to the Ruby Sea, leaving the guards behind. It was pitch black out there, in the middle of the water. If it wasn't for the little lantern Chaeyeon had put in her bag, they wouldn't see at all. After making sure no one was following them, the maid told the little one to sleep while she would take her somewhere safe and Chaerin listened to her savior. Chaeyeon had planned to take Chaerin to her parent's house in Yanxia and hide while thinking about what to do next. However, luck seemed not to be in their side anymore as the sea grew more and more violent, with enormous waves trying to break their boat in half. Chaerin, waking up terrified, tried to help Chaeyeon maintaining their ship as steady as possible but they were no match against the power of nature. The maid and the little girl were projected in the water as a big wave turned their boat upside down. As Chaerin never learned how to swim, Chaeyeon struggled to help her stay afloat but, tired and helpless, the waves engulfed them underwater.Chaerin heard a manly voice that seemed to be talking to her. She had a hard time opening her eyes as the sun was shining bright. When her eyes had adapted to the amount of light, she first saw an impressive silhouette that revealed to be a Kojin fisherman who was handing her some water. Sitting on the beach together, after hearing her story, the fisherman felt sorry for the little girl as he knew that the maid surely didn't make it alive since the Ruby Sea is known in the region to be extremely dangerous, not to mention all the creatures in the deepest part of it. The fisherman hid Chaerin for some time, but the Hanzai family's relentless research for the girl proved to be far too risky. He informed a friend and good client of his about the girl's situation. The client, who is an Ishgardian lord, was moved by the girl's story and bought her from the fisherman, more so to help him because he wouldn't have accepted the money otherwise, but also to save the girl from a tragic fate. The lord brought her back to Ishgard with him. By leaving the eastern continent, the Hanzai family had no other choice but to give up on getting her back. When the girl had to pick a family name, she apologized to lord Dreauvert and his wife who were so kind as to adopt her, but she wanted to honour Chaeyeon Myeong's memory by taking her name, to which they agreed and took her as their pupil, making her promise to still call them mom and dad, as she was the only child they could ever have. That day, Chaerin swore that she'd learn how to fight to defend herself and her loved ones so no one has to sacrifice themselves for her ever again.

Chapter 3 : A horizon of possibilities

Life was peaceful. Yes, she was still woken up by nightmares in the middle of the night, but lord Oloix and lady Merrette Dreauvert of Ishgard were great parental figures and the education they gave her was exemplary. They always did the best they could to help her overcome her traumas, as hard as it still is sometimes.Chaerin developped a passion for dancing and would participate in various Ishgardian events. She was often mocked for her size, as not many Hrothgars chose the holy city of Ishgard as a home because of the colder weather. Those words made her feel self-concious, but she never let them stop her from doing what she loves. Chaerin also learned how to handle a rapier properly, to which she added a twist of magic, as she found out that she had a gift for magical abilities, even though that's rather uncommon for the Hrothgar.Chaerin Myeong studied history and astromancy. Secretly, she was yearning to learn more about her origins. She went as far as Idyllshire to try and discover things that might be helpful to her research. One afternoon, as she was having tea and biscuits with her adoptive parents, they had an important conversation. They told her they knew she wanted to know more about her past and they respected that. They also offered to help her by financing her studies in the Academy of Sharlayan, where she would have access to more information about all Eorzea and foreign places. Chaerin thanked them profusely and promised to come back and tell them all about everything she'd learn. The paperwork for the right to cross the Old Sharlayan borders was tedious. At first, Chaerin found it difficult to adapt to this new place, but then she reminded herself why she was there and how she would not disappoint her parents after everything they did for her. With all that regained willpower, she focused on her studies and eventually found out about her real parents, their tragic death and how she ended up in Hingashi.Chaerin was a bit shaken up by the memories brought back by all this information. She took some time to breathe outside, under the gazebo outside of the Noumenon. When she felt ready, she went back in and dived a bit deeper into her past. She learned everything about her ancestors up until their arrival from Tural. Chaerin grew curious about this new continent and tried to know more about it. She was fascinated by all the local stories and legends she could read of it.Then, as she was having lunch at the Last Stand, Chaerin overheard a noisy Hrothgar, who strangely called herself a "Xbr'aal", talking to an exasperated Viera about the continent of Tural and seeking help for claiming her father's throne. Without a second thought, Chaerin volunteered. The duo greeted her in their team and told her to pack her belongings because they would be leaving in a couple of days. Realizing what she had done, she quickly sent a letter to her parents to reassure them and tell them all about her plans. While sailing to the continent of Tural, Chaerin Myeong had a weird feeling. She was so excited to visit a new land with her newly found companions, but she was also terrified of what she would discover on this journey to the past...
